The Kings Centre offers a range of training tailored for those wishing to learn how to thrive in contexts of engagement with different faith and cultures.
Cultural Awareness Training
This half-day of training is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to work well across cultures (and often associated faiths), either among colleagues or clients or church members, or with communities around them. It is not primarily about having all the right answers about cultures; rather, it is about building the ability to ask all the right questions.
Current clients include public sector organisations, charities and church related groups.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why MIght my BUSINESS / Organisation need this training?
Examples of needs for this training include for employees who interact with colleagues or clients of different cultures (and possibly faiths) within their work or for businesses whose main clients or partners come from one cultural group.
But if we already get on well with these people, why then bother with this training? The answer is that cultural interaction is complex with people often least aware of their own assumptions when interacting, like fish unaware of the water in which they swim. Participants learn to become more aware of cultural behaviours (including their own) in everyday interactions and unknowing assumptions that they (and others) make within them. This lets them build skills to adjust their actions accordingly through learning to recognise underlying dimensions common to every culture, including their own. WHY MIGHT MY CHURCH / faith group NEED THIS TRAINING?
Examples of needs for the training include enabling churches / faith groups inclusive of different cultures to 'love one another' (which will mean different things to different cultures) and to 'welcome the stranger' as they connect with those around of different cultures (again with different cultural interpretations of what 'welcome' might mean).

Training can be at a venue of participant choice or alternatively, at the Kings Centre in Southall.
The Kings Centre is 5-mins walk from Southall Train Station (on both London Underground and National Rail), with plenteous free parking also available at the Centre. How long does THE TRAINING last?
Training lasts for half a day, with 30 – 60 mins of digital training before and after, providing space and time to reflect on cultural concepts and on consequences for work.
If a particular faith group is in focus, then a one-day option is available through combining this training with Faiths Awareness Training. This enables inclusion of a visit to a faith centre and interaction with a practitioner as part of the training. HOW much DOES THE TRAINING cost?
Pricing varies depending on differing options and expenses, so please contact us to discuss your training needs and costs in detail.
If pricing is a problem for you, other alternatives can also be considered. We passionately believe in the importance of this learning and we want as many people as possible to benefit. Pricing is set though to make future training sustainable, considering wider costs such as content development, CPD and publicity. what happens in THE TRAINING?
Digital training beforehand lets participants understand underlying themes as to why people do what they do within their culture. Classroom training then brings awareness of one’s own cultural assumptions as well as those of others. Differences between cultures are considered using six underlying dimensions of culture, and case studies are explored as to how these can be seen and addressed within everyday interactions.
Digital training afterwards lets participants then consider implications for their own future working practice. Can training be on just one CULTURAL group rather than many?
This may occur if businesses work with clients or partners from one country or if a church particularly wants to relate to those of one cultural group nearby.
In these cases, training can be tailored to learn about just that culture within a half-day, or alternatively, Faiths Awareness Training can be added within the day to highlight cultural aspects associated with that faith group. CAN THIS TRAINING BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TRAINING?
Cultural Awareness Training can also be combined with Faiths Awareness Training. While the former can provide learning on a fuller understanding of faith groups from a cultural perspective the latter can provide learning on how to interact well.
This could be done through providing Cultural Awareness Training at a venue of your choice followed by Faiths Awareness Training in Southall. If coming to Southall is not possible, then this training could be used as an opportunity to build relations with a local faith group of interest, and to approach them about hosting a visit as part of this training. Please contact us for details about requirements for this visit. HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU HOST IN A TRAINING EVENT?
Optimum number of participants is up to 15 in order to provide opportunity for all participants to interact during the training.
If more people than this want training then we can conduct two events within one day. Larger groups are possible per event but our finding is that the learning experience is consequently reduced with these numbers. |
