The Kings Centre offers a range of training tailored for those wishing to learn how to thrive in contexts of engagement with different faith and cultures.
Faiths Awareness Training
This one-day of training is designed for anyone wanting to learn how to interact with faith practitioners, either among colleagues or clients at work or while living alongside different faith communities. Training is provided in how to dialogue well around topics of common interest with opportunity then given to apply this learning right away through interaction with practitioners during visits to local faith centres and sharing of a cultural meal. While training typically lasts for one day, more in-depth training can be provided for up to one week.
Current clients include businesses, charities, church groups and theology students.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why MIght my BUSINESS / Organisation need this training?
Faith is likely to play a key role in the lives of both colleagues and clients of ours and yet society has tended to avoid talking about this, leading to a lesser understanding of what is likely to be a core aspect of their identity. This training raises awareness of positive faith contributions to working practice and builds confidence and skills to have civil conversations with faith practitioners about these, regardless of whether training participants are of faith themselves.
The strength of the training lies in its customisation for the needs of your business or organisation, with examples including learning from practitioners about stories from their faith in fields such as
WHY MIGHT MY CHURCH / faith group NEED THIS TRAINING?
Examples of needs for the training include enabling churches to build bridges with other local faith communities or participants who interact with those of different faiths within their working lives.
Participants will become more appreciative of the positive (and often unheard) role of faith communities within wider society, and will develop skills to interact well with them, with opportunities to apply learning on the day of training through engagement with faith practitioners. WHere is THe TRAINING Held?
Training normally occurs at the Kings Centre in Southall due to proximity of faith centres and excellent relationships with local faith leaders, enabling short tours to Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh places of worship. The Kings Centre is 5-mins walk from Southall Train Station (on both London Underground and National Rail), with plenteous free parking also available at the Centre.
Training can also be at a venue of participant choice if openings exist to work with nearby faith centre(s). How long does THE TRAINING last?
Training lasts for one day, including visits to up to three faith centres nearby and a cultural meal. Digital training of 30-60 mins is provided beforehand to prepare for participants for coming. If only one faith is in focus, then training can be completed within a half-day or can be combined with Cultural Awareness Training within one day to include learning about cultural aspects of a particular faith group.
Options also exist to extend this if more in-depth training is needed, with some groups coming for up to one week. HOW much DOES THE TRAINING cost?
Pricing varies depending on differing options and expenses, so please contact us to discuss your training needs and consequent costs in detail.
If pricing is a problem for you, other alternatives can also be considered. We passionately believe in the importance of this learning and we want as many people as possible to benefit. Pricing is set though to make future training sustainable, considering wider costs such as content development, CPD and publicity. what happens in THE TRAINING?
Digital training beforehand lets participants understand underlying cultural themes as to why people do what they do within their faiths. Upon arrival, they then receive additional training to further culturally prepare them to visit nearby faith centres to meet practitioners, observe and hear of their customs and to ask questions to understand associated underlying values and beliefs.
Debriefing on implications for future working practice then occurs back at the Kings Centre, prior to departure from Southall. Can training be on just one faith group rather than many?
This may occur if businesses work with clients from one faith-influenced country or if a church particularly wants to relate to those of one faith nearby. Learning about several faiths can bring out nuances within one faith such as use of visual imagery but you may prefer to focus just on your faith of interest.
In these cases, training can be tailored to learn about just that faith within a half-day, or alternatively, Cultural Awareness Training can be added within one day to highlight cultural aspects associated with that faith group. What faiths can be learnt about within the training?
Within a full day of training, it is possible to visit up to three faith centres close to the Kings Centre. These can be chosen from Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh places of worship.
If your interest is in a faith not among these, then please ask us about including it, since we also have connections with Jewish and Buddhist faith communities within the wider vicinity. WHAT If our group cannot come to southall?
Our preference is for participants to come to Southall because it is an opportunity to see first-hand how different faiths can work together within one community. However, we do also recognise that this is not practical for everyone who wants the training. We do also have connections with various faiths elsewhere, so please contact us to explore this possibility.
One other option is to use this training as an opportunity to build relations with a local faith of interest, and to approach them about hosting a visit as part of this training. Please contact us for details about requirements for this visit. Can this training be combined with other training?
Faiths Awareness Training can also be combined with Cultural Awareness Training. While the former provides learning on how to interact well with different faiths, the latter can add learning on a fuller understanding of faith groups from a cultural perspective.
This could be done through providing Cultural Awareness Training at a venue of your choice followed by Faiths Awareness Training in Southall. If coming to Southall is not possible, then this training could be used as an opportunity to build relations with a local faith group of interest, and to approach them about hosting a visit as part of this training. Please contact us for details about requirements for this visit. How many people can you host on the TRAINING?
Optimum number of participants is up to 15. This is limited by the size of the faith centres and also our desire to provide opportunity for all participants to partake in dialogue with a faith practitioner during the training.
Larger groups are possible but our finding is that the learning experience for participants is consequently reduced with these numbers. |
