The Kings Centre offers a range of training tailored for those wishing to learn how to thrive in contexts of engagement with different faith and cultures.
Cultural Awareness Training
This half-day of training is designed for anyone who works across cultures (and often associated faiths), either with colleagues or clients or within communities. It is not primarily about having all the right cultural answers; rather, it is about building the ability to ask all the right questions.
Optimum group size is up to 15 participants.
Current and future clients include public sector organisations, charities and church related groups.

Why is it needed if we already get on well with these faiths and cultures?
If people already work well with different faiths and cultures, why then bother with this training? The answer is that cultural communication is complex, and people are often least aware of their own assumptions when interacting, like fish unaware of the water in which they swim. This training lets participants know what is really going on and to act accordingly to achieve positive outcomes!
What will it achieve?Participants learn how to become more aware of cultural behaviours (including their own) in everyday interactions and unknowing assumptions that they (and others) make within them. This lets them build skills to adjust actions accordingly through learning to recognise underlying dimensions common to every culture, including their own.
Where is it held?Training can be at a venue of participant choice or at the Kings Centre in Southall. The Kings Centre is 5-mins walk from Southall Train Station (on both London Underground and National Rail), with plenteous free parking also available at the Centre.
Training can also be combined with Faiths Awareness Training to create a full day course if focus of interest is on one particular faith group. This can be arranged by us if training is at the Kings Centre but can also occur elsewhere if relations already exist with a faith centre nearby. How long does it last?Training lasts for half a day, with 30 – 60 mins of digital training before and after, providing space and time to reflect on cultural concepts and consequences for work.
If a particular faith group is in focus, then a one-day option is available through combining this training with Faiths Awareness Training. This enables inclusion of a visit to a faith centre and interaction with a practitioner within the training. This can be arranged by us if training is at the Kings Centre but can also occur elsewhere if relations already exist with a faith centre nearby. |
How much does it cost? |
Pricing varies due to differing expenses and options selected. Please therefore contact us to discuss your training needs in detail.
If pricing is a problem, other alternatives can also be considered. We passionately believe in the importance of what is learnt and we want as many people as possible to benefit. Pricing therefore is set to make future training sustainable, considering wider costs such as content development, CPD and publicity.

What happens in the training?Digital training beforehand lets participants understand underlying themes as to why people do what they do within their culture. Classroom training then brings awareness of one’s own cultural assumptions as well as those of others. Differences between cultures are considered using six underlying dimensions of culture, and case studies are explored as to how these can be seen and addressed within everyday interactions. Digital training afterwards lets participants then consider implications for their own future working practice.
What if we are interested in just one faith or cultural group?Examples of this are of a church seeking to be contextual where a community of a different faith is also prominent, or of an organisation with significant business links with one other culture. In both cases, training can focus on cultural perspectives connected with that group, with relevant case studies added or developed.
If focus is on one faith group, then training can also be combined with Faiths Awareness Training, including a visit to a faith centre and interaction with a practitioner. If at the Kings Centre, then we can organise this, but please contact us if interested in doing this elsewhere. |
